Cycling Merit Badge Log

October 2, 2010

Today was our 50 miler for the Cycling merit badge.  We drove up to Sequim (pronounced Squim) and rode to Port Angeles.  Along the way, all of us that needed the badge (Patrick, David, and myself) all suffered an accident of some sort.  I nearly fell ten feet into a river, Patrick took a slide and hit a fence which stopped him from falling into a ditch, and David took a sharp turn and cut up his knee.  Of the three of us, Patrick and David both suffered scratches and cuts, and Davd might need stitches.

The cool thing that I saw on the way back to Sequim (we had to ride back to complete the 50 miles) was two deer in a meadow.  That means that I saw deer on my first ever 10 mile ride, my first 15 mile ride, my first 25 mile ride, and my first 50 mile ride.

Ok, so for my cycling merit badge, I have to keep a record of what I saw and did on the ride.  So here's what we did on yesterday's 25 mile ride.

We left McCormick Woods and rode down to Burger King and took a left.  From there we went to Berry Lake Road and came up to Old Clifton Road, where we took another left and went to Christ the Rock Church.  From there we turned around and retraced our steps back to the Haley's.  In McCormick Woods again, we saw a doe and two fawns.  We stopped for lunch at the Haleys' before heading on another 11 miles through McCormick Woods.
